STORMS

There is something so fascinating about troubled #skies and troubled waters.
So alluring.
The twists and turns and nature’s mood swings.
The elements of surprise that leave us in awe.
It’s so strange that we desire so deeply for the calm but subconsciously adore the #storm.
Beautiful paradoxes.

Gentle Lullabies

She was not safe then,
She was not safe now
Curled up in his arms, warm.
Passing through avenues,
Moving into the wilderness.
She was at peace with herself,
Whispering sweet nothings to the moon,
As it whispered back, gentle lullabies
The wind rippled through her hair,
The dust on her cheeks more so evident
There was nothing as gentle as the lines drawn on her forehead,
nothing as strong as the calmness in her breath
She was the dream he had never hoped to wake up from,
while reality lay asleep in his arms.
And they passed through long roads, holding each other tight.

An excerpt from my book, ‘Cells and Constellations’

I will be releasing my #book ‘Cells and Constellations’ around the same time next year. It is a compilation of #poems, trying to explore the complexity and simplicity of #love and life. How everything we do and experience stems just from two innate drives, the vigour to #live and the spirit to love. I will be putting up excerpts every now and then and would love to hear what you think.

Wars

I get the smell of gun powder in my house,
the miasma smothering me.
Blasting bombs and terrified screams,
I hear them all.

Stifled by guns, held at close proximity.
There is a war in my closet and I cannot pretend to be blind.
For battles begin in the mind.
And mortal souls merely bear the consequences of lost ideologies.
Too strong, too bold for the weak and the feeble.
Yet we are blinded and defeated by the shine of their sigil.

How long more do we keep mum and look on with faux ignorance?
Has the violence and terror debauched our very conscience?

That Friday

I woke up from a deep sleep,
wiping the sand from my eyes.
Looking at signals going red and traffic halts.

The sky was dull, as though bearing in a tale.
Such a common sight for a peak hour Friday evening.
But it looked all so unfamiliar.

I did not belong here.
For the first time I felt like an alien in a strange city.
My mind belonged to the wild,
my heart to the sea.
Bearing tides and beasts within me.

Hoping for Sunshine

Through a million miles
Under a thousand suns
Love had once again begun

Roses had bloomed
The earth slowly, yet steadily dried
Giving way to new life

The misery was over
People were merry
Life was a million smiles, all back to normalcy.

Prayers and prayers
For all in the rains
Prayers and prayers
For smiles and lives
Prayers and prayers
For all in Chennai!
